Ram Pump Studio was founded by Miriam Davies, a graphic designer and illustrator with a bachelor’s degree in physics and a master’s in environmental management. Before transitioning to design in 2020, she worked for environmental organisations in roles including renewable energy engineer, sustainability consultant, and energy advisor.

Combining her science-driven background with her creative skills, she now creates clear and engaging visuals that support science communication across a wide range of topics.

Why "ram pump"?

The name of the studio is taken from Miriam’s favourite piece of technology on display at the Centre for Alternative Technology, an eco-center in Wales where she worked as an engineer. Ram pumps use the energy of flowing water to raise a fraction of it to a higher level, all without external power. They embody the studio’s values of simplicity, efficiency, and innovation.
